Worth it if

You bid several roofs a week and measure them by hand.

Skip it if

Most of your work is small repairs where a quick look is enough.

Not really AI, still worth it These are image-measurement tools, not chatbots. They're here because they save a climb on every bid.

What gets set up

You order a report for the address and get roof measurements (area, pitch, edges) built from aerial or phone images, often the same day. EagleView, Roofr and RoofSnap sell reports per address; Hover builds a model from photos taken on a phone. A Kansas City roofer told Roofing Contractor his proposals were mostly done before he met the customer.

Who’s done it

Real exampleVendor case study

An Alberta roofer bids most jobs without a site visit

Knights Roofing in Edmonton bids from aerial measurement reports on about 250 jobs a year.

Use case estimate: 1.5 to 4 hrs a week ours, not theirs

What they did. Switched to bidding from EagleView reports instead of sending staff to every home first.

How it went. The company says estimating costs about half what it did 10 years ago.

Worth knowing. Vendor case study. The 10-year comparison includes other changes, not just the reports.

Their number. $60,000 to $80,000 a year saved on insurance, vehicles and labor (vendor-reported).

Real exampleTrade press

A Kansas City roofer stops sending salespeople up ladders

Infinity Roofing's owner told Roofing Contractor that aerial reports changed who he hires and how fast proposals get done.

Use case estimate: 1.5 to 4 hrs a week ours, not theirs

What they did. Used aerial measurement reports instead of having salespeople climb roofs to measure.

How it went. He says proposals are 90% done before he meets the customer.

Worth knowing. This is an older article (2011), and the 90% is the owner's own estimate.

“We now hire salespeople who can focus on selling, not climbing the roof to get measurements.”

Why it matters

Every estimate starts with a trip up a ladder to measure. That's time, fuel, risk and a salesperson who's measuring instead of selling.

How I estimated the hours

1.5 to 4 hrs a week: 3 to 6 estimates a week at 30 to 45 minutes each for driving, climbing and measuring, mostly replaced by a report. Rounded down. Monthly cost assumes 13 to 26 reports at $13 to $18 each.

Questions

Roofers in the trade press bid most jobs from them. Many still check on site before ordering materials, especially on complicated roofs.

Per report: EagleView's Bid Perfect is $18, RoofSnap starts at $13, and Roofr's are $13 to $19. Hover lets you try 3 projects free, then charges per scan or a yearly plan. At 3 to 6 bids a week, that's roughly $170 to $470 a month.
