AI gathers the photos, notes and carrier emails for an insurance job into one organized file and drafts the paperwork for your estimator to check.

Worth it if

Insurance work is a big share of your jobs and files pile up.

Skip it if

You mostly do retail (cash) roofs.

What gets set up

AI pulls the job's photos, notes and carrier emails together, compares what you found with what the carrier's scope includes, and drafts the documentation for your estimator to review. It documents and estimates. It shouldn't negotiate: in Texas, only licensed public adjusters and attorneys may negotiate a claim for a homeowner.

AI for insurance supplements, from someone who sells it

On a roofing podcast, the founder of a supplement company described using AI trained on past claims to speed up supplements.

Use case estimate: 1 to 3 hrs a week ours, not theirs

What they did. Described AI built on tens of thousands of past claims, emails and call recordings to speed supplement turnaround and improve carrier communication.

How it went. No results are given in the episode notes.

Worth knowing. The guest sells this service, so treat it as a vendor claim. He says ChatGPT on its own isn't enough.

You’ll need

  • A consistent photo and note routine on every job
  • Your state's rules on what contractors may say to carriers
  • An estimator who reviews everything before it goes out

Try it

This one needs setup: it connects to your phones, your software or your client records, so there’s no copy-and-paste version. Have this set up for you.

Why it matters

Insurance jobs bury the office in photos, measurements, scope sheets and emails with the carrier. Missing one item means a delay or a smaller payment.

How I estimated the hours

1 to 3 hrs a week: 3 to 6 insurance jobs a week at 20 to 40 minutes each assembling files and drafting, cut by about half. Rounded down.

Questions

Don't let it. Contractors can generally provide and discuss estimates, but negotiating a claim for a homeowner is restricted in some states. In Texas, only licensed public adjusters and attorneys may do it. Check your state's rules.

The examples so far come from people who sell supplement services or software, so treat results as vendor claims.
