When a job runs long, the next customer gets a clear, polite heads-up without the plumber putting down the wrench to make a call.
Your jobs often run long and customers call asking where you are.
Your schedule rarely slips or your office already texts every change.
Most field software can send an automatic on-my-way text. For the messier case, a job running long, the office or the plumber taps out a few words and AI turns it into a clear, friendly text with a new arrival window. It saves the phone call and keeps the tone right.
Nobody has published results for this one yet, so this use case rests on my judgment. If you’ve done it, tell me how it went.
Write a short, friendly text to a plumbing customer named [first name]. We're running about [minutes] minutes late because [reason, e.g. the last job ran long]. New arrival window: [time to time]. Apologize once, don't over-explain, and give them a way to reschedule by replying. Under 300 characters. Sign it [company name].Read what it gives you before you send or use it. You know your customers; it doesn’t.
Count the delay calls and texts in a normal week.
A drain job that runs an hour over pushes the whole day back. Someone has to call the next three customers, and usually nobody does until they're already annoyed.
0.5 to 1 hrs a week: 8 to 15 schedule-change calls a week at 3 to 5 minutes each, replaced by a quick text. Rounded down.
On-my-way texts usually can, inside your field software. Delay texts work better with a person giving the new time, because AI doesn't know how long the current job will run.
A text takes 20 seconds and the customer can read it whenever. A call takes several minutes and often goes to voicemail anyway.
