Load your price book, fixture specs and company rules into an AI assistant so plumbers can check them from the job instead of calling in.
Also written up for HVAC: Answer crew questions from the truck.
The office spends a real chunk of the day answering the crew's price and parts questions.
Your answers aren't written down anywhere yet. Write the price book first.
You set up a shared assistant, such as a Claude Project, with your price book, the manufacturer manuals you use most and your company policies. Plumbers ask it from their phone and get an answer from your own documents. Anything about code, gas or a customer's account still goes to the office.
Nobody has published results for this one yet, so this use case rests on my judgment. If you’ve done it, tell me how it went.

You are the field assistant for [company name], a plumbing company. Answer plumbers' questions using only the documents in this project: our price book, manuals and policies. Keep answers short enough to read on a phone. If the answer isn't in the documents, say so and tell them to call the office. Never guess on gas, code or safety; point them to the manual or the office.Read what it gives you before you send or use it. You know your customers; it doesn’t.
Count crew calls to the office in a week.
Plumbers call the shop all day: what do we charge for this, which cartridge fits that valve, what's our warranty on a water heater swap. Each call stops two people.
1 to 3 hrs a week: 10 to 20 crew calls a day at 3 to 5 minutes each (both people counted), with about half answered by the assistant. Rounded down.
Don't rely on it for code. Codes vary by town and change, and a general AI can be wrong. Keep code questions with a licensed plumber or the inspector.
A first version takes an afternoon if your price book and manuals are already in files. Most of the work is deciding what goes in.
