Worth it if

Month-end billing cleanup takes hours.

Skip it if

You bill mostly flat fees.

What gets set up

AI rewrites rough entries into clear narratives, and activity tracking such as Smokeball's AutoTime records what you worked on so less time gets lost. You bill only time actually spent: Texas Opinion 705 says you can't bill hourly for time AI saved.

You’ll need

  • Your billing guidelines and any client-specific rules
  • Entries without unnecessary confidential detail

Try it

Rewrite these time entries as clear, professional billing narratives a client will understand. Keep the date, time and task exactly as written; only improve the wording. Don't add tasks or time. Entries: [paste entries with client names removed].

Read what it gives you before you send or use it. You know your clients; it doesn’t.

Don't paste client confidences into a personal AI account. Use a vetted business tool, verify every output, and check your state bar's guidance.

Run your own numbers

Count the entries you clean up in a typical week.

Why it matters

At month end, someone turns cryptic entries like "rev docs, call w/ OC" into descriptions clients will pay without arguing. It's tedious, and time slips through.

How I estimated the hours

0.5 to 1.5 hrs a week: 2 to 6 hours a month cleaning up entries before invoices go out, cut by about half. Spread over the month. Rounded down.
